The write up from CDBaby:
VINCE MIRA
Country music’s newest young star’s rise to fame has captivated America. Born in Los Angles, California and raised in San Antonio, Texas the young singer/songwriter Vince Mira, was discovered by entertainment producer Chris Snell (owner of Famous Seattle night club, Can Can) while playing for tips in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. He is now on his way to becoming a household name. His first album was produced by John Carter Cash (Johnny Cash and June Carter’s only son) and recorded at the Cash Cabin (built by Johnny Cash) in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to the completion of recording “Cash Cabin Sessions” the Vince Mira buzz began to spread followed by a media frenzy. First featured on KOMO News in Seattle, Washington, KOMO’s affiliate, Good Morning America, picked up the story immediately… 2 weeks later Vince captured the nation with a breathtaking live performance in front of over 5 million viewers. Subsequently, the Ellen DeGeneres Show aired his Good Morning America clip where Ellen personally invited Vince to the Ellen Show during their national broadcast the same day… two weeks later Vince received a standing ovation on the show while performing in front of millions of viewers during yet another outstanding live performance. Mr. Mira’s other television appearances include Northwest Afternoon and Univision (KOMO’s Spanish affiliate); as well as features in print media outlets such as Seattle Sound Magazine, Seattle Times, Seattle Weekly, and many others. He recently recorded with Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam for Stone’s upcoming “Hank Williams Tribute” CD.

Ultimatum is so well done, it’s ridiculous. Every scene keeps you glued to the film – it’s such a completely fresh take on spy style movies, it’s what the next Bond movie should seriously strive for. The character of Bourne himself has evolved so much that it makes the pace of the film so much quicker; but completely for the better. I don’t think there was any spot in the movie where events died-down in a sense. YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE.

Just tonight, I watched another flic that I had heard of when it was in theatres, but didn’t think much of it. I so wish I had sean this movie in theatres now! “Stardust” is an incredibly well-written, well-directed, acted, entertaining movie that I just couldn’t pull away from. Every actor in the movie is so engaging with their characters that you can’t move from your seat. Claire Danes, DeNiro, Charlie Cox, Jason Flemyng, Michelle Pfeiffer, David Kelly and the rest of the cast really bring a huge amount of life to this movie. On top of it being so well-written and done, the producers and directors brought in the perfect cast for this movie. If you don’t see any other movie in 2007 or 2008; you HAVE to watch this flic. Written by the master himself; Neil Gaiman (MirrorMask, The Sandman, Death: The High Cost Of Living, Mr. Punch), it’s an incredibly well-done movie. CHECK IT OUT NOW!

One band that popped to mind was Cubanate; a very hard-hitting, rough, gritty industrial band from somewhere near Germany from what I remember.

I remember catching them at the Troubador in Santa Monica over 10 years ago… and now I’m realizing that they were putting out better music then, than what’s out now in my opinion. They opened for Chemlab at that show. Chemlab had the bassist from Thrill Kill Kult filling in, and they and Cubanate tour that place apart in just around 2 hours.

My good buddy Ricky and I walked out of that place completely deaf and high on sound. So where are they now?

It’s interesting to see the progression I’ve made since this site, to where I’m at now. Just too much to take care of, not only on the internet with work, but daily life with the family and kids.

This is short, I know, but I’m going to sit back and think more about what to do with this place.

It’s been a few weeks, but I haven’t written about it ‘til now. I’m going to be the father of twin girls in September! We found out that Courtney was pregnant a few months back, and when she went in to the doc’s to see how far along she was, during the ultrasound, the doctor said “Oh, well look at that, there’s two in there.”

My jaw dropped when I heard the news, and I realized that we weren’t just having to make room for one more child, but two more.

It served as a good kick in the butt to move. We needed a bigger pad to accommodate the Brady Bunch I was slowly breeding in it. So we found a nice house, with 4 rooms and real grass in the backyard this time.

I’m very stoked that we’re having girls. We already have to wonderful boys, but I’m very afraid that if we’d had anymore, I’d come home one day to a pile of smoldering ashes that was once my house. That, or the dog may turn up spray painted one day, the car wrecked, etc. you never know with those two.

So having girls is a blessing. Though, from hearing stories about Courtney growing up, I’ll probably be eating my words in a few years, and the boys and I will be living in a tent in the backyard.

The only concern I have is if the twins pop out identical. If so, I’m taking them straight over to Todd’s to tattoo each of them.

Courtney has already bought a few identical girls outfits, and I told her right away; that if the kids are identical or look pretty similar, then you’re taking care of them the day they wear those outfits; because I won’t know who’s who.

I’m going to be vague here, so I don’t step on any toes, but just wanted to post a quick lesson I learned. A couple years back, I helped out a fellow designer in their hunt for a job. I had seen this designer’s work and was very impressed. We emailed a few times and long story short, this person was hooked up with an interview at a great startup due to some emailing and phone calls between some buddies and I. This person got a nice, cushy job because of it.

Then this kid blows up online in popularity, which is very cool – but after a bit, the “real” person started to seep out. Ego. Huge amounts of it that I then realized were trouble.

Needless to say, this person was “let go” of the job they got, due to this reason. Nice. Great reflection on my friends and I for helping out.

So now (even though the company in question is run by an ego-nightmare), this could look bad on me. Luckily though, that didn’t happen, and this kid went on to secure another great job, and again was fired.

So the moral of this story – don’t help anyone out based solely on talent or skill. Make sure you know them thoroughly before giving a hand.

And with that comes a lot of needed updating around my life. Step one: move! We’re on the hunt for a bigger pad; house, backyard, 4 bedrooms, the whole nine yards. Still going to be renting though, but I think that might be a tad smarter in this current market.

Step two: do some major hunkering down on client work and get everything wrapped up so I can get to fathering later this year. I have so much on my plate right now, I don’t know where to start (so I usually step back and take a nap). Maybe that’s why it’s all piled up. First off though, to get the juices flowing – evaneckard.com is in the middle of a redesign. It’s looking sharp in my opinion. I’ve learned (and done) a lot in the past few months, so it’s time to update that joint with the latest.

After that, my good buddy BURKE! Is getting the double E treatment. I’ve already worked up one design, a very scary, vaudeville, surreal piece. It should turn out rather well. I also have Michale’s site that I need to re-do (ideas are there, I just need to get the pixels in order), and then on to super-secret web 2.0 stuff.

And that’s just barely getting into May. Hah! I’m doomed! But lovin’ every minute of it.

Plain and simple. For the past six years, I’ve had a goatee and mustache, with the ever-so-bikerish chin-strap (where your side burns meet your beard in a slender style).

6 years. I’ve had this combination for 6 years, and then one night, I realized that I forgot what I looked like. You see, I’m a late bloomer. Yup, that’s right, I didn’t completely grow up until I was 23 or so. Now, at 23 I realized that I could actually grow some descent facial hair; before then it was pretty lame.

I happened to get married at 23, and started growing my beard out right during the time I was getting hitched. After that, I was in pure heaven. Totally comfortable that I was off the dating scene and happily married.

So I ate. And my metabolism came to a scretching halt. I went from 150 pounds, to 200 in less than 11 months; but it fit me. After all, I am six foot one, and managed to keep the extra weight in order (so I thought). I looked like a full grown bloke, nothing big, but I still had the beard.

Well, I got a wild hair tonight and shaved that sucker right off. Wow, 6 years and now I look totally over weight.

I’m just brain dumping here so this may be incoherent.

Now I realize my chin is getting close to double, and boy that’s a bit scary.

Yeah, I’m vain, but after having a grandfather that had a heart attack every few years it’s scary. I don’t want to have heart issues due to fat cheeks.

I’m warped.

Yeah, I know, cheeks don’t cause heart attacks, but it gives me a reason to straighten up. Look at squirrels. You know what I mean.

So, it’s a regimate time. East well, sleep well, kill off un-needed stress, work out. I’m so doomed since I have two kids with twins in the way and am totally tired when I get home every night. Any advice? Who’s got the advil?

Sheesh, I just saw myself again and am instantly depressed. But I’m not growing the hair farm back! Time to get moving.

This is true. As long as you can pretty much keep a VW engine turning, you’re mobile. Let me tell you a story.

In high school, my buddy T.J. had a VW bug*, with no second gear, and no starter. To go anywhere, he needed a friend. We’d push that bug til it started, and then all jump in as fast as we could before it stalled out.

We also had a bad habit of gluing tools to the roof of the car. My late buddy Jimmy started this tradition. See, we all skated. And when you do skateboarding heavily, your shoes falls apart quickly due to ollie’ing and the grip tape in general. Back in the day, there was this stuff called “Shoe Goo.” And oh, it was so much better than duct tape. When you got a hole in your shoe due to ollies, kickflips, and mayhem in general… you just slathered a huge helping of this shoe goo epoxy stuff to it, and it made a nice little plastic shell. Much like the magic shell stuff that dairy queen uses on their sundaes, but much more sturdy.

Anyways, we had a healthy supply of shoe goo around us at all times. And well, we found that this stuff can glue tools to cars very quickly too. T.J. also, for some reason had a tool kit in his car that he never used. Come on, the car had no gears and no starter – like he used ‘em.

While T.J. was at my house, Jimmy was still out by the car. He found the shoe goo, and tools, and found a philips head screwdriver with a nice red handle. While he was waiting, he glued the screwdriver to the back window… standing straight up. It looked a lot like a red neck antennae. After that, day tool we found got glued to the car. We had a better excuse to carry shoe glue with us more than ever.

After a while, T.J. was driving a green ’69, VW bug with no starter, no 2nd gear and a nice set two dozen snap-on tools glued to it. It rocked.

A few weeks later, he was driving down the highway and the passenger side rear tire came off. Of course he couldn’t get it back on due to all his tools being glued to his car, and he left that bug there to rot. It was there for years. The dead bug on Rosedale Highway in Bakersfield, California.

I miss TJ. I haven’t seen the guy in eleven years. I hope he’s alright.

And I really miss Jimmy. He passed a year or so ago. Such a young life too quick. We skated, listened to punk rock, and drove Frankenstein VWs. Jim Hall. A legend in my blood… you’re sorely missed lil’ Jimmy.

* sorta like the one pictured.
